The Rekindling

The year I graduated with my master’s, I dumped my boyfriend and went abroad for my PhD.

From then on, I became his White Moonlight.

He stayed single for five years, just waiting for me to come back.

But in the third month after we got back together, he seemed to grow tired of me.

He complained to his friends: “During those years we were apart, she dated other men.”

“I just can’t get over that.”

So, I broke up with him again.

He cried his heart out: “Why?”

I shrugged lightly: “Because if I could leave you once, I can leave you a second time too.”

The first time I left him, it was to chase my own ambitions.

The second time, it was because I refused to accept a love that’s tainted.
