1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using novilist (the “Platform”), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

2. Accounts and Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform.
  • Some features (reviews, metadata edits, reading lists) require an account.
  • You must keep your login details confidential and are responsible for all activity on your account.
  • We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for any reason, including violation of these Terms or conduct harmful to the Platform or its users.

3. User Content and Metadata

  • You are responsible for all content you submit (reviews, comments, links, metadata, reading lists).
  • You retain ownership of your content, but you grant novilist a worldwide, non‑exclusive, royalty‑free, perpetual license to use, display, and adapt it to operate and improve the Platform.
  • You promise your content is lawful, accurate to the best of your knowledge, and does not infringe any third‑party rights.
  • Metadata is community‑contributed and not authoritative. It may be incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated, and you use it at your own risk.
  • We may remove or edit any content at our discretion.

4. Prohibited Content and Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Infringe copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property.
  • Post illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, or obscene content.
  • Post false or misleading information or impersonate others.
  • Link to obvious piracy or content you know is unauthorized.
  • Use bots or scraping tools without permission, attack or probe our systems, or try to bypass security.
  • Spam or otherwise disrupt the Platform.

We may remove content, suspend features, or terminate accounts to enforce these rules.

5. Copyright and Links

  • novilist does not host novel chapters or translations. We only host metadata, reviews, and links.
  • Links to external sites are user‑submitted. We do not control or endorse third‑party sites and are not responsible for their content, legality, or privacy practices.
  • If you submit a link, you are responsible for ensuring it does not obviously point to infringing material.

6. Donations and Paid Perks

  • Donations (e.g., via Patreon) are optional and processed by third‑party providers. novilist does not see or store your payment card details.
  • Perks may include ad‑free browsing and cosmetic or convenience features. No core content or metadata is paywalled.
  • Any issues with charges, refunds, or payment failures must be handled with the payment provider, not novilist.

7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

  • The Platform and all content (including metadata and user reviews) are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind.
  • We do not guarantee that information on the Platform is accurate, complete, or available at all times.
  • To the maximum extent allowed by law, novilist is not liable for indirect or consequential damages (including loss of data, profits, or opportunities) arising from your use of the Platform or third‑party sites.
  • Our total liability to you for all claims is capped at the greater of:
    • The total amount you paid to novilist in the 12 months before the claim, or
    • 500 units of your local currency,
    • with an absolute maximum of 5,000 units of local currency.

8. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold novilist harmless from claims and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Platform, your content, or your violation of these Terms or others’ rights.

9. Copyright Complaints

If you believe something on novilist infringes your rights, email us at [email protected] with:

  • Your contact details
  • What you own and what you believe is infringing
  • Where it is on novilist (URL)
  • A statement that you have a good‑faith belief it is infringing and that your notice is accurate under applicable law

We may remove or disable access to the content and, where appropriate, notify the user who posted it.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The new version applies when posted. If you continue using the Platform after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where novilist is incorporated or principally operates. Disputes must be brought exclusively in the courts of that jurisdiction.
