How the migration works

Follow these three simple steps to bring your entire reading history into NoviList.

Export your XML from NovelUpdates

  • Log in to your account on NovelUpdates.
  • Ensure Reading Lists are enabled (Global Settings in the top-right menu).
  • Open your Reading List page, click "List Settings" or "Export List", and download your reading list XML file to your phone or computer.
Tip: The generated XML contains your series names, custom reading lists, and last-read chapter counters.

Sign in to NoviList

  • Create your free account using email, passkeys, or Google OAuth.
  • If you already have an account, simply sign in to access your personal dashboard.
Tip: No payment, credit card, or complex verification required.

Drop into Settings / Import

  • Go to Settings → Import & Export in the main navigation.
  • Drag and drop your exported .xml file into the upload zone.
  • Click "Start Import" — our parser matches titles, Romanized names, and synonyms automatically, preserving your progress and assigning them to your Reading shelf.
Tip: You can choose whether to overwrite existing library entries or only import new additions.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Will my exact chapter progress be saved?
Yes. NoviList parses the exact <chp> values from your NovelUpdates XML export and creates reading entries with your current chapter numbers intact.
How does title matching work for translated or romanized names?
Our database catalogs original Asian script titles (Chinese hanzi, Korean hangul, Japanese kanji/kana), official English licenses, and common community romanizations. If a novel is spelled slightly differently, our fuzzy matcher links it to the canonical entry.
Can I export my data out of NoviList if I ever want to?
Absolutely. We believe you should always own your reading data. In Settings → Import & Export, you can download a complete GDPR ZIP archive containing all your profile data, reading history, custom lists, and reviews at any time.
What happens if I import again later?
Re-importing is completely safe. You can toggle "Overwrite existing" if you want to pull updated chapter counts from an active NovelUpdates list, or leave it off to only import new titles you have started.
