During the summer of his first year in high school, Kasaha Kyo was sleeping alone at home with a cold. His family had gone out to see the fireworks, and although he was supposed to watch them with his two friends, Inomata Taiki and Chono Hina, he sent them a message: “You two can go without me.”

Lying under his futon, Kyo found himself thinking about the quiet support he shared with the two of them. And just as his thoughts began to fade, an old memory surfaced. It was the memory of his own clumsy one-sided love, and that summer spent with his precious friends.
